Jaguar’s Porsche Boxter rival to come in 2012

Jaguar is preparing a rival for the Porsche Boxter, codenamed the XE and scheduled to go on sale late 2012, but even so, the manufacturer will present a concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

According to AutoCar, the XE won’t be an attempt to recreate the E-Type but it will be made in the same spirit as the iconic model.

Based on Jaguar’s next generation roadster platform, the XE will be 4.3 meters long and will most likely be powered by a V6 petrol engine in both aspirated and supercharged forms. As an entry level, a turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine is also being taken into consideration by Jaguar.

The new XE is expected to be fitted with an eight-speed automatic gearbox as well as the stop-start technology, which will reduce both the fuel consumption and the CO2 emissions.
The XE Jaguar will be priced around 40.000 pounds and it is expected to hit the dealerships late 2012.
