The Jaguar C-X16 production concept, making its Canadian debut in Toronto, is designed by the same team that produced the Jaguar XJ, XF and XK, headed by Jaguar’s design director Ian Callum.

The C-X16 concept is a precursor to future Jaguar sports cars that will aim to set new class benchmarks in design, vehicle dynamics and technology.

As the concept neared completion, Callum commented: “Great Jaguar cars have always been beautiful, innovative and have looked firmly to the future. The finished C-X16 concept has the potential to do these things while retaining the ability to surprise, excite and invigorate.”

Jaguar will also showcase the 550-horsepower XKR-S Coupe. The high-performance sports car is the fastest and most powerful production vehicle Jaguar has ever created.

Land Rover

Land Rover will feature the 2012 Range Rover, the pinnacle of luxury SUVs, with its unique blend of high-performance on-road dynamics and traditional Range Rover off-road capability.

Also on display are the Range Rover Sport and Evoque, plus the Land Rover LR4 and LR2.

Readers of What Car? magazine have voted the Jaguar C-X16 Concept as the model they would most like to see launched this year.

The award for the ‘Most Exciting Car to be Launched in 2012′ was received by Adrian Hallmark, Global Brand Director, Jaguar Cars and Ian Callum, Director of Design from Chas Hallett, Editor-in-Chief of the What Car? magazine.

In his acceptance speech, Adrian Hallmark said the reaction to the Jaguar C-X16 car had been outstanding and he was grateful for the recognition. “We’re proud that the readers of What Car? share our enthusiasm for the Concept by voting in such numbers,” he said. “I would like to personally thank the readers and recognise the efforts of Ian Callum and our engineers in creating such an inspiring and beautiful sports car.”

On the Jaguar website, Hallmark describes the car the “compelling vision for a 21st century Jaguar sports car. It embodies the established Jaguar strengths of sensual design, animal-like agility and inspirational performance and combines these with attributes that set us on a course to create sustainable sports cars of the future.”

The C-X16 Concept is made using and aluminium structure and is also equipped with a hybrid drivetrain which enables it to achieve 0-62mph in just 4.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 186mph. The combined fuel efficiency of the concept is around 41mpg (17.5kmpl) while emitting 165g/km of CO2.



The prototype supercharged all-alloy V6 engine is capable of producing 280kW and 332lb ft (450Nm) of torque. Supplementing this is an electric motor producing 70kW and 235Nm (equivalent to 95PS and 173lb ft), available to the driver at the push of a steering-wheel boost button.

The VW up! was awarded the Car of the Year award with judges describing the small car as ‘the right car for the time’.

Concepts C-X75 and C-X16 were showcased by Jaguar at the Delhi Auto Show 2012. X Range from Jaguar is their answer to future while their current variants XF, XJ and XK, are already making waves in various auto markets around the globe. These two new concepts from Jaguar, C-X75 and C-X16 are a clear indication of Jaguar's continued dedication and loyalty to development of new technology.

Mr. Adrian Hallmark, Global Brand Director of Jaguar said that both these concept cars have drawn the attention of customers during their global launches. Here at the Delhi Auto Expo, these concepts are to showcase Jaguar's determination and dedication to producing some electrifying, competent and elite luxury supercars.

It was Ratan Tata who unveiled the concept C-X75 at the Delhi Auto Show on January 5th 2012. This hybrid car will have independent electric motors on all four wheels and CO2 emission of less than 99 gms/km. It will run on fuels like diesel, bio fuel, CNG and LPG. C-X75 has been named after Jaguar's 65th anniversary where C stands for Concept and X stands for Experimental. However, there was no word on when these two vehicles would go into production and what will be their price tags.

There’s nothing better than a fast cat that combines the tradition of the British mark with the modern technology they are starting to focus on nowadays. While more economical diesels or an AWD XJ are coming to bring market success to Jaguar, it’s the spiritual successor to the E-Type that people really want.

A Jaguar insider has today confirmed to Teamspeed that the UK car maker is currently preparing the mass production of the two-seater C-X16 Concept. The wonderful looking concept was released at the 2011 IAA Motor Show in September and got a refreshing new white paint job at the Los Angeles Motor Show two weeks ago.

No time frame has been set for the car’s launch, but Jaguar’s engineers are on the case, meaning anyone waiting for the British marque’s Porsche fighter can certainly start getting excited.

Some test mules based on the XK have previously been spotted, proving the worth of the new V6-powered drivetrain, Jaguar Engineers are now instead focusing on the safety aspects that will make the C-X16 road legal.

The car is likely to be called the Jaguar XE and will be a direct competitor for Porsche’s offering. The drivetrain consists of a supercharged V6 with a hybrid flywheel systems that provides extra go-power. No date of arrival has yet been announced, but the car could be revealed in production trim as early as next year.

The two-seater concept marks a new future for Jaguar with respect to technique and design and show a model positioned under the XK-lineup. A next-generation supercharged V6 petrol engine producing 380hp and 450Nm of torque is combined with a Formula 1-inspired hybrid boost system with a steering-wheel mounted button for on-demand acceleration.

Five Minutes on the C-X16 with Jaguar’s Adrian Hallmark, Ralf Speth, and Andy Goss

Jaguar has long been know for its designs, but has had some real knockouts one after the other in the past few years in the forms of the C-XF, C-X75, and C-X16 concepts, and the XF and XJ production cars. We were able to sit down with Jaguar Global Brand Director Adrian Hallmark and his colleagues Ralf Speth, CEO of Jaguar/Land Rover, and Andy Goss, the head of Jaguar Land Rover North America. We picked their brains about their most recent — and stunning — concept car, the C-X16.

Automobile Magazine: Timing on the C-X16?

Adrian Hallmark: We haven’t made a decision yet.

Automobile Magazine: What’s the soonest?

Adrian Hallmark: The decision? We could make it today, but the project is at least a couple of years away. We’ve done a lot of development work around the concept, but there’s a lot more to do.

Automobile Magazine: Is this a 911 competitor?

Adrian Hallmark: No, it’s a Jaguar. If you took the hybrid and all the technology out and had a supercharged V-6, that could be priced, roughly, somewhere between the top of Porsche Cayman R and the bottom of 911. So, less than a 911, but more than a Cayman.

Automobile Magazine: Do you want to introduce it with the hybrid, and then bring in other powertrains later?

Adrian Hallmark: No, I think we wanted to debut the concept with this powertrain, because we’ve actually learned a lot from working on the CX-75 (2010 Paris Motor Show supercar concept). One example is, we’ve got air-conditioned batteries, what that does in terms of power extraction and efficiency of the batteries is incredible. We’ve got, with another battery partner, a patented technology that’s in this C-X16 concept, but it came from the CX-75 research work. So, we’ve also learned about how to integrate the motor, the engine, and the power control systems, huge amounts of coding, with lots of bench testing and development work [on the CX-75].



Automobile Magazine: So those two cars might go in lockstep toward production?

Adrian Hallmark: We wanted to present an innovative, relevant performance powertrain for the future. Anybody can make a car look beautiful….not quite as well as [Jaguar design director] Ian Callum can….but to have something with that design appeal, and that technical substance, for us was important, to get Jaguar back into consideration as a modern, technically driven, innovative, engineering-led company that can design the most beautiful cars in the world.

Automobile Magazine: So when the C-X16 goes on sale, it could start with a conventional powertrain, and is more likely to have a conventional powertrain?

Adrian Hallmark: Absolutely. But this hybrid powertrain is totally feasible, but not as quickly as the car could be built.

Ralf Speth: I think it will change Jaguar the brand itself. For me, Jaguar is a sport oriented brand and company. Thinking back to the 50s, when Jaguar was first in the market with disc brakes, and the E-type. This DNA of Jaguar can best be shown in a sports car.

Andy Goss: It’s not going to drive massive volume, but it drives our image. It’s totally credible from a style and design perspective; people can see that it is clearly a Jaguar. So it provides a very young image which will provide a halo. From the U.S. perspective, it’s absolutely important that we make a very strong business case for the car.

Updated Jaguar C-X16 Concept inches closer to production

At a private event in Los Angeles, Jaguar presented an updated version of the C-X16 Concept that initially debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show back in September. The car, freshly clad in a coat of White Pearl paint, was presented by Jaguar design chief Ian Callum who all but confirmed that a version of the C-X16 would be put into production.

The C-X16 Concept certainly looks ready to takes its place as a modern rendition of the E-Type with various design cues that pay tribute to the legendary two-seater. The technical aspects of the car are anything but retro, however, with a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 under the hood paired with an electric motor built into the 8-speed transmission. The combination produces 468 horsepower and 505 lb-ft torque, which Jaguar says is good for a 0-60 mph time of 4.4 seconds and a top speed of 186 mph.

Whether items like the hybrid power system will make it into production is certainly questionable, along with the trick side-opening rear hatch (an E-type tribute) and the stunning red leather interior with carbon fiber race seats that are more likely to remain conceptual features only.
