Jaguar XF Diesel Crossed America Averaging 62.9 MPG

A few days ago Jaguar sent an XF 2.2 Diesel on a journey across America from New York to Los Angeles. The car finished its trip yesterday having achieved amazing numbers.

During this eight-day tour the XF crossed 11 states and three time zones, covered over 2,884-miles and most importantly set an average fuel economy record of 62.9 mpg, with 67 mpg peak.

That makes the XF 2.2 the most fuel efficient Jaguar in history. The factory-standard right-hand-drive car only required four stops for fuel throughout the journey. And it’s not like they’ve been on an eco drive either. The independent drivers maintained average speed of 53 mph and encountered real life situations including the busy roads exiting New York and, towards the end of the trip, entering Los Angeles, road works, high winds and a climb to 7,275 feet above sea level.

Jaguar has always been great at making refined diesel engines that offer the best compromise between performance and fuel economy. This car does 62 mpg, and it can go from 0 to 60 mph in 8 seconds, and it hits 140 mph top speed. You don’t have to sacrifice one for the other.

Paul Alcock, XF Project Manager, Jaguar Cars, who was present throughout the journey, commented: ‘This project was designed primarily to test the potential economy of the XF 2.2. The incredible figures achieved by the car were accomplished through making every element of the new XF as efficient as possible – from its aerodynamics to its four-cylinder 2.2-litre diesel engine linked to an eight-speed gearbox. The whole XF team is incredibly proud of what’s been achieved and it’s a graphic demonstration of the strength, engineering integrity and efficiency of the car.’

Jaguar XF 2.2 Diesel Embarks On Cross-Country Tour of U.S.A.

Jaguar XF 2.2 D in USA

Well, there’s at least one diesel-powered Jaguar XF in the U.S. Jaguar revealed today that a 2012 XF 2.2 diesel was shipped to the New World from England, and is now embarking on a 2800-mile, cross-country road trip from New York City to Los Angeles.

While New York to L.A. in seven days is a lifetime compared to Alex Roy’s 31 hour and 4 minute journey in his E39 BMW M5 in 2006, independent drivers David and Alexander Madgwick are going for fuel economy, not speed. The ultimate goal of the Madgwicks’ trip is to prove just how economical the XF 2.2’s 2.2-liter 187-hp and 332 lb-ft of torque diesel four-pot really is. The XF 2.2 is rated at 52.3 combined mpg in Europe, or the American-equivalent of 43.5 combined mpg. Earlier this year, Jaguar drove a similarly stock XF 2.2 816 miles from Jaguar’s Castle Bromwich, United Kingdom factory, to Munich, Germany on one tank.

Since Jaguar’s already proven just how far the XF 2.2 can go, why bring it to the United States? Is there a chance that Jaguar could bring an XF diesel to the U.S.? When asked for comment, Jaguar told us the reasoning for bringing the XF 2.2 to the U.S. was twofold. First, Jaguar wanted to demonstrate its “advanced efficiency technologies.” The second reason? For the journey, “Everyone loves the scenery of [a]cross country U.S. drive. With great expanses, the [drive] across America endures as the quintessential road trip.”

Those interested in following the XF 2.2’s road trip across the U.S. can do so on either Jaguar’s Facebook or Twitter pages. As of this writing, the XF 2.2 is currently in New Jersey. So much for the scenery….

New Land Rover Certified Pre-Owned Program in the US

Land Rover makes some very lovable SUVs, but does the thought of buying one used give you chills? Fear not, because the company's new certified used car program is actually pretty impressive. "From the Land Rover LR2 to the Range Rover, Land Rover vehicles have always been known for their capability and stylish presence, making them highly desirable," said Kim McCullough, Brand Vice President, Land Rover North America. "We are excited to be able to offer an all-new Select Certified Pre-Owned program that will provide consumers with a thoroughly-inspected and factory-backed pre-owned Land Rover model."

The new program is offered for any Land Rover or Range Rover that's less than five model years old and has fewer than 60,000 miles on the odometer. After a 150-point inspection, the program offers up to a six-year, 100,000-mile warranty. However, that's not from the used car purchase date, that's from brand new. So say you bought a three-year-old Range Rover Sport with 50,000 miles? That's a three-year, 50,000-mile warranty remaining. CPO cars also get the same perks as new car sales, like a free subscription to OneLine magazine and opportunities to visit Land Rover driving schools and events. Roadside assistance is also included.

Gilt Groupe partners with Land Rover North America, Nice offers

Gilt sale includes the Range Rover Evoque, a 3-day trip to England to experience the Land Rover Experience Driving School and a $5,000 Gilt gift certificate

Land Rover North America has teamed with e-commerce website Gilt.com in offering a brand new Range Rover Evoque, complete with a trip to the automaker’s U.K.-based off-road driving school and $5,000 gift certificate thrown in for the price of the vehicle. The online sale began today, October 3rd, at 12:00 p.m. (EST). Based on past experience, it’s likely the sole example on sale – an Evoque 5-door in Prestige trim – was snapped up in about the time it takes the luxury-laden little SUV to accelerate from zero to, say, two miles per hour!

A similar promotion held last year, featuring a brand new Volkswagen Jetta priced at only $5,995, required 253 milliseconds for one owner to purchase the car online. Rather than simply scoring a new ride for a rock-bottom price, the lucky Evoque owner will be whisked to the U.K. for a trip for two at the Land Rover Experience Driving School. As for that $5,000 gift certificate, our guess is that it’ll be more than enough for a couple Land Rover-labeled umbrellas and duffle bags at the gift shop.

“The all-new Range Rover Evoque targets a whole new generation of brand enthusiasts and an urban, contemporary audience that frequents Gilt for instant insider access to premium brands,” said Kim McCullough, Brand Vice President, Land Rover North America. According to the Gilt homepage, the site aims to offer its “3.5 million members” inside prices on the most prestigious brands and travel destinations. Think of it as Groupon.com for the Gucci crowd. Other Land Rover-themed adventures, including weekend getaways to Vermont and Carmel Valley, California, are also being offered.

Jaguar, Land Rover hopes to sell 50,000 units each for a Year in US

Jaguar and Land Rover have been working hard to expand their lineups in order to keep up with their competitors. As a result, a new boss was appointed for the brands’ North American branch. And to make sure that Jaguar and Land Rover are on par with the sales of direct competitors like BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz, a new sales goal has been set, albeit an ambitious one too.

Andy Goss, President of Jaguar Land Rover North America has bold plans for Land Rover to hit 50,000 U.S sales by 2012 and for Jaguar to reach the same goal within five years.

Land Rover sold 31, 864 units in 2010 and has sold 20,000 vehicles through July of 2011. ”Both brands have some similarities in the fact that we are planning for growth predicated on product introductions,” said Goss. With the new compact  Evoque added to the lineup, Goss feels the 50,000 mark is within the automakers reach. Jaguar will most likely have more trouble attaining the 50,000 unit goal, based on the fact that the automaker only sold 13,340 units in 2011. Jaguar hoping to up sales with help from a sports car that the brand is considering, which may debut as a concept at the Frankfurt auto show. Goss did not provide any details but noted that Jaguar needs a small sports car and a sedan to compete with the BMW 3-Series.
