Remote-controlled sidebar lighting has also been added.

In terms of power, the Evoque's 2.2-liter diesel engine received an updated ECU, giving the Range Rove 25 more horsepower and 37 extra lb-ft of torque. Jaguar XJ-L, Evoque on James Bond 007 Skyfall Set [Video]‎

Supercar spotter Shmee150 has turned into a spy video maker, since he says he accidentally spotted a long wheelbase version of the Jaguar XJ on the set of the next James Bond movie. The filming was taking place in London and there were also a few Range Rover Evoques there, which we’re inclined to believe had something to do with the making of the new 007 movie.

Oh, and the black Range Rover you see at 1:33 is supposed to be driverless. There’s a gig on top of the car where the actual driver sits, and the actors sit in the back, so when the camera is on you get to thinking there is no driver.

Skyfall will mark Daniel Craig’s third sitting as James Bond. The plot of the 23rd Bond film that’s to be released in October is still very much a secret. All we know right now is that James Bond's loyalty to M is challenged over secrets from her past. Oh, and Naomie Harris will play the bond girl, which saddens us as Gemma Arterton fans.

Audi A7 and Range Rover Evoque

Land Rover North America today announced that the 2012 Range Rover Evoque was named Autoweek's "Best of Best" truck for 2011. This marks the second year Autoweek has named its "Best of Best" - vehicles that best exemplify the pinnacle of automotive perfection, from the perspective of the automotive enthusiast.

"We are honored that the newly launched Range Rover Evoque has been named Autoweek's 'Best of Best' truck for 2011," says Kim McCullough, Brand Vice President, Land Rover North America. The vehicle stays true to the core values of Range Rover, providing premium levels of craftsmanship, luxury, performance and Land Rover multi-terrain capability while embodied in a more compact package. The Range Rover Evoque achieves a 28 MPG EPA highway rating and sends a message that the company is serious about sustainability and determined to deliver vehicles that are both relevant and highly desirable.

The Range Rover Evoque is available in two versions: a coupe and a five-door, with starting prices of $44,995* and $43,995*, respectively. Every Range Rover Evoque destined for the United States will be equipped with all-wheel drive and will feature a 240-horsepower, turbocharged, direct fuel injected, four-cylinder engine coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission. Range Rover Evoque by Kahn Design revealed

Range Rover Evoque by Kahn Design

The British tuners at Kahn Design have revealed a new design kit for the Range Rover Evoque, which brings more aggressiveness to the British crossover.

Kahn Design is a British aftermarket specialist who prefers to take on large projects, mostly SUVs, and this latest creation proves that a trained eye does all the work. Even if this isn’t the first time when the tuner is working on a Range Rover Evoque, the aggressiveness brought to the exterior design made us want to present it. As you can see from the images posted in the gallery below, the Range Rover Evoque made by Kahn Design has a lot in common with the LRX concept.

The main modifications brought to the English crossover are mostly based on the body colors, the rims and the unique personalized elements. The Evoque is standing out from the crowd thanks to the lowered suspension (35 mm), to the orange roof, which is reminding us of the DS3 Racing made by Citroen, by the huge rims, which can be ordered in sizes between 20 and 22 inches, by the yellow brake calipers, black windows and silver paint, all of the bringing a new design. The tuner is telling us that the interior can also be modified, starting with the dashboard shades and ending with the possibility of bringing just about any trim color, including the one on your pants.

Range Rover Evoque Award Tally Passes Half Century; List of all awards included

53rd award received: Prizes from across the globe boost Range Rover Evoque’s honours collection
Coveted 4×4 title: 4×4 Magazine hands 4×4 of the Year title to Evoque

The Range Rover Evoque has added more awards to its portfolio, taking the total to 53 since its recent launch in September this year.

Recent honours bestowed on the Evoque came from Britain’s 4×4 Magazine, which proclaimed the Evoque its 4×4 of the Year, and this was swiftly followed by the Car of the Year title from the Czech Republic, and Best SUV from the Brazilian automotive news agency Auto Press, taking to 15 the number of different countries to recognise the smallest, lightest and most efficient Range Rover ever produced.

Evoque’s half-century tally includes notable titles such as Car of the Year in the UK AutoExpress New Car Honours, Scottish Car of the Year, US Motor Trend’s SUV of the Year, BBC Top Gear’s Car of the Year, Car and Driver Spain Car of the Year, the Design Trophy from l’Automobile in France and a host of honours from Chinese organisations and publications.

For Land Rover global brand director John Edwards, keeping up with the awards is proving a welcome headache: “The speed with which the honours are being collected by the Evoque is breathtaking, as is their global nature. It is a fantastic achievement for all connected with the Evoque project and a great endorsement for the product.

“In addition to these formal titles, the Evoque is daily emerging on top in motoring magazine group tests around the globe, and is winning thousands of admiring new owners. We have now received in excess of 40,000 orders for Evoque, and what is particularly heartening is that many of those have come from customers new to the brand.”

The most recent British honour comes from 4×4 Magazine, whose editor Nigel Fryatt said that there was universal agreement among the judges “that the new Evoque points the way to what future 4x4s will be like, and in some respects that alone makes it a worthy winner.” 4×4 Magazine also awarded Evoque top honours in its Premium Plus class.

Test Drive: 2012 Range Rover Evoque Pure

2012 Range Rover Evoque Pure

2012 Range Rover Evoque Pure's Cabin
The cabin is elegant and well crafted, using the classic Range Rover wide centre console that rises over the contrasting horizontal elements of the dash. The controls are large, logical and glove friendly, and the eight-inch touch screen is clear and intuitive – obviously an evolution of the aging system seen in all the other LR and Jaguar products. Time for the rest to play catch up, as this one is much better.

The Jaguar/Land Rover signature rotary shift knob that rises from the console on start up is as functional as it is unique. Also on the console are buttons for the Terrain Response. The four settings – General/ Grass Gravel Snow/ Mud and Ruts/ Sand – optimize the AWD, throttle response, stability control and traction control for the selected conditions. Hill start assist and descent control are also included.

The front seats with their suede-like inserts are excellent – grippy and supportive yet comfortable for the long haul.

On the road the Evoque has a taut, athletic feel. Throttle response is quick (although jumpy at times) and this pressurized 2.0-litre four banger feels a lot stronger to me than its quoted output. Put your foot in it and the Evoque really charges. The six-speed auto works well although response to the paddles is not particularly prompt. The brakes feel strong and the hydraulic steering is alert and direct.

Unlike the LR2, the Evoque shows a real appetite for the corners, but you pay the price in ride quality. It’s not harsh, just firm, which might become an issue if Yolanda Yoga spends the majority of her time on crappy urban (Toronto) streets, ferrying the kids, scurrying to pilates and double-parking in front of Hazelton Lanes.

On the highway, the Evoque tracks beautifully and the cabin noise is well suppressed; all the better for grooving on that sound system.

Transport Canada cites 11.4 L/100 km city and 7.1 L/100 km highway, with 9.5 L/100 km combined. In comparison, the BMW X3 (base $46,000) with its creamy 300-hp turbo six and eight-speed auto returns 11.1 / 7.7 / 9.6 L/100 km – pretty much a wash.

Perhaps the Evoque’s closest competitor is the new BMW X1, another compact premium AWD crossover motivated by a 2.0-litre turbo four. On paper they are remarkably similar, with nearly identical power outputs and luggage capacity, although the X1 is lighter, quicker, more frugal at 10.2 L/100 km city and 6.5 L/100 km highway, and at it bows at $38,500.

The biggest difference lies in the fact that the X1 is a tall car, whereas the Evoque is a bona fide boonie-basher that will tow your jet ski and wade in water up to 500 cm in depth. And there’s certainly no contest in the looks department.

This dramatic newcomer is the first all-new vehicle from Range Rover since Tata purchased Jaguar/LR in 2008. Having just been named Motor Trend Sport Utility Vehicle of the Year, it’s appears the Evoque is off to a good start.

    Preview: Range Rover Evoque 2WD

    Range Rover Evoque 2WD

    Good

    • Stunning looks
    • High fuel economy and low CO2 emissions
    • Still a capable off-roader despite 2WD

    Bad

    • 4WD model holds the edge in icy or very wet weather

Don't let its looks fool you, the Range Rover Evoque -- aka the baby Range Rover -- is a startlingly capable off-road vehicle. It's relatively small for a 4x4, but manages to keep pace with its bigger Freelander 2 and full-size Range Rover brothers off the beaten track. The Evoque puts them both to shame with its sporty, coupe-like road skills.

It'll come as no surprise to you that most drivers will never ask it to perform anywhere near its considerable off-roading limits. Most of the four-wheel drive technology actually hampers rather than helps its progress during ordinary city driving.

Luckily, Land Rover has been busy building a new Evoque designed specifically for the city. In doing so, it's ripped the heavy, complicated off-roading gubbins from under the car and built a two-wheel-drive model that better suits the needs of its hillock-dodging, cappuccino-loving target audience.

Land Rover took us to Austria, where we hopped in a prototype model and pointed it at the nearest mountain to find out if it's worth buying when it hits the streets in early 2012.

    Range Rover Evoque 2WD

    Two-wheel power

Land Rover's first step in creating a 2WD Evoque was to take a metaphorical axe to the thing. The rear half shaft? History. Rear prop shaft and drive units? Tossed aside. The power transfer unit? Forget about it -- it's gone for good. When you bury the go pedal, the only thing that moves are the Evoque's front wheels.

The biggest advantage gained in shedding its 4WD power system is a significant reduction in weight. By omitting the aforementioned components alone, Land Rover has been able to reduce the weight of Evoque by some 59.5kg, and the weight savings don't end there.

Land Rover has trimmed yet more fat by replacing the old metal bumpers, wheel arches and tailgate with new plastic ones. The bonnet, roof, front bumper beam and parts of the steering are constructed of aluminium; the cross-car beam, which sits behind the dashboard and provides rigidity, is made of magnesium alloy; and the windscreen is a svelte acoustic laminate.

All of this contributes to a total 75kg of weight saving. In total, the 2WD Evoque tips the scales at 1,600kg, which is an impressive 35 per cent lighter than a 2010 Range Rover Sport.

    Range Rover Evoque 2WD

Fuel economy, road tax and emissions

In order to create the most efficient propulsion solution, Land Rover has paired the 2WD Range Rover Evoque with its weediest -- sorry, most efficient -- engine, the eD4 variant of its 150PS (147.9bhp) diesel unit. This 2.2-litre diesel lump, which also powers one of the 4WD models, is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, as this is inherently lighter than an automatic box.

In all, the Evoque promises a combined fuel economy rating of 57.6mpg and CO2 emissions of 129g/km. That's a respectable 8mpg more and 20g/km less than is possible with a 4WD equivalent. That means its first year of road tax is free, with each subsequent year costing £95. Taxing the equivalent 4WD drive car costs £130 for the first year and £120 every year after that.

The Evoque achieves these numbers due to its use of several fuel-boosting gadgets. It's the first Range Rover to feature electronic power steering, which provides a 2 per cent fuel economy increase over traditional hydraulically-powered steering systems.

    Range Rover Evoque 2WD

The 2WD Evoque also boasts stop-start, which shuts the engine down when the vehicle comes to a standstill, and fires it back into life when the clutch is depressed and the driver is ready to pull away. These systems are usually annoying at best and will make you want to punch a horse at worst, but this particular implementation works quickly and is relatively unobtrusive. Those who persist with it will be rewarded with a 3 per cent improvement in fuel economy.

A further 1.5 per cent gain in fuel economy is achieved through 'smart regenerative charging', which recovers energy when the vehicle decelerates. Sadly, this doesn't rely on a fancy KERS-like battery or flywheel to achieve the effect. Instead, the Evoque's power management system dynamically changes the resistance of the car's alternator -- the bit of the engine that converts mechanical energy to electrical in the form of alternating current.

Under acceleration, the alternator's resistance level is reduced so the engine doesn't have to work quite as hard to pull the car along. Under braking, that resistance is ramped up to harvest as much energy as possible, which is then used to power the vehicle's various electrical systems.

On paper, Mazda's prototype iELOOP regen system is superior as it promises a 10 per cent boost in economy, but every little helps.

    Handling and performance

While its weight-saving and efficiency-boosting gadgets provide lower running costs and cleaner driving, the 2WD Evoque doesn't lose much ground in performance terms. It completes the 0-60mph sprint in 10.6 seconds and has a top speed of 112mph. The nearest equivalent 4WD car manages a 10.3 second 0-60mph time and a 112mph terminal velocity.

    Range Rover Evoque 2WD

The loss of 4WD doesn't adversely affect the car's day-to-day handling either. On dry roads, it arguably feels more agile, which might be due to the lightweight aluminium roof and bonnet providing a lower centre of gravity and better balance.

The 2WD car has plenty of grip too. On dry surfaces, it impressed us hugely, following its 4WD sibling up seemingly insurmountable obstacles.

    Range Rover Evoque 2WD
Its big brother leaves it for dead in icy or very wet conditions, but with a decent set of winter tyres, we can't imagine the 2WD Evoque getting stuck on tarmac, no matter how brutal the weather.

    Outlook

Land Rover's primary mission in creating a 2WD Evoque was to eliminate inefficiencies. On this evidence, it appears to have succeeded. The 2WD Evoque is lighter, consumes less and is kinder to the environment than the 4WD models that came before it. All of that makes far more sense for the city-dwelling masses who would buy it.

The Evoque still manages to maintain the Range Rover's rough-riding spirit, however, facing up to rough terrain with aplomb when the going gets tough.

Land Rover Planning Longer Grand Evoque

    Just the Facts:
    • Land Rover is planning a bigger version of the Range Rover Evoque.
    • The new SUV is part of a grand scheme to launch no fewer than 40 new models over the next five years.
    • Growing sales of the BMW X and Audi Q models are encouraging Land Rover to broaden its Range Rover sub-brand lineup by developing a model to sit between the recently launched Evoque and the Range Rover Sport.

    2012 Range Rover Evoque
Land Rover is planning a bigger version of the Range Rover Evoque SUV as part of a grand scheme to launch no fewer than 40 new models over the next five years.

Land Rover's expansion is seeing proposals that will take the marque into new niches, and some are taking precedence over similar projects at sister brand Jaguar because the potential sales and profits are greater, suggest insiders.

Growing sales of the BMW X and Audi Q models are also encouraging Land Rover to broaden its Range Rover sub-brand lineup by developing a model to sit between the recently launched Evoque and the Range Rover Sport. That gap is expected to widen as both the Range Rover Sport and the flagship Range Rover shift further upmarket with their upcoming renewal.

The XL edition of the Evoque is likely to be based on the same LR-MS architecture as the existing model, which was developed from the Ford EU-CD platform that provides the foundation of the LR2. The inherent packaging efficiency of this architecture is likely to yield a decently scaled cabin, particularly for rear-seat passengers.

In terms of a design theme, the starting point for the new model is believed to be a "Grand Evoque," although Land Rover will doubtless be anxious to give the car a distinctive visual and functional character of its own, not least to limit sales cannibalization from other models.

An underbody stretch of around 12 inches would provide some of the increased accommodation, with half the extra length between the axles and the rest allocated to the rear overhang and an enlarged trunk. Land Rover may consider a third row of seats as an option that could usefully widen the appeal of this mid-market Range Rover and provide a particular reason to buy it.

The powertrain lineup would likely be built around the new range of four-cylinder engines that Jaguar Land Rover is to develop for production at a new site in the U.K. These are thought to include a 1.8-liter direct-injection turbo producing as much as 170 horsepower. JLR's hybrid development program should also allow a twin-motor version of the Grand Evoque.

Expect a higher percentage of lightweight elements in this car as JLR explores mixed material structures as part of a weight-saving campaign vital to satisfying tightening U.S. CAFE requirements.

The XL Evoque is likely to be assembled in the U.K. alongside the standard Evoque, the LR2 and the new small Jaguar sedan, all of them built on variations of the same architecture. Deriving four models from this platform will potentially yield JLR profitable economies of scale that it has never before achieved, and will make this smaller family of cars a cornerstone of its business.

Euro NCAP Crash Tested: Range Rover Evoque and Jaguar XF

Range Rover Evoque after Euro NCAP Crash Test

Euro NCAP, the recognised industry safety body, has crash tested some of 2011’s biggest newcomers, including the Range Rover Evoqueand Jaguar XF!

The Evoque is proving to be a star model, with high demand and a long waiting list. Its five-star crash performance will help cement its popularity with customers. It received 86 per cent for adult occupant protection, 75 per cent for child protection and 41 per cent for pedestrian safety.

Less impressive was the latest Jaguar XF, which could only match the four-star score of the outgoing version, despite its size and a starting price of £30,950. It scored 79 and 73 per cent for adult and child protection respectively. Chest and rear impact (whiplash) protection were classed as marginal. It did post a high score for pedestrian safety, however, with a score of 62 per cent.

The XF isn’t a new model, of course, but was recently updated. The bodywork modifications required for the update necessitated certain parts of the test being retaken, but the new results still weren’t enough to raise the Jag’s rating to top marks.

First lot of Range Rover Evoque already sold out in Australia

Range Rover's stylish Evoque has finally hit Australian shores. But you can't have one because the first 250 examples of the high-riding hatch have already sold out until about May, 2012. There's even strong global demand with more than 32,000 pre-sale orders, far exceeding the company's initial expectations.

The Evoque is the smallest, lightest, most fuel-efficient car to wear the Range Rover badge. It's also the cheapest, with prices ranging between $49,995 and $75,895 (plus on-road and dealer costs).

Land Rover's design director Gerry McGovern says the Evoque is "not meant as an entry-level vehicle but a true Range Rover in a compact form," which is a point that's sharply accentuated once a few options are added. It's not hard to push the Evoque close to $100,000, which is well into Range Rover Sport territory.

Not only will it compete with regular compact luxury SUVs such as Audi's Q5 and BMW's baby X1 and larger X3 (the Evoque is approximately sized between the later two), but it will also take on everything from conventional luxury sedans, the iconic Mini Cooper and sports cars such as Audi's TT.

Up to 70 per cent of customers will be new to Land Rover, according to Land Rover Australia's brand manager Tim Krieger, who expects the company's 80:20 male-dominated skew see a greater gender balance.

The Evoque will even be available in two-wheel-drive entry-level guise from July next year, which is an admission that many owners are unlikely to venture too far from the bitumen - a point once sneered at by the British off-road specialist brand.

Range Rover Evoque Launched in China; Priced Competitively

Range Rover Evoque launch in China

Under the slogan of ‘Hello Beijing‘ Land Rover’s most fashionable car to date rolled out from under the curtain and positioned itself to take on the Chinese market. The Evoque has been priced at just over 620,000rmb for the five door and 630,000rmb for the three door version, as Chinese consumers generally have a terrible aversion to all things diesel only the 240bhp gasoline engine is being offered in China for the time being.

The British made Evoque is actually very well positioned in the Chinese market, in the same pricing segment you have the box like German made Mercedes GLK which starts at 440,000rmb and rises to 618,000rmb and BMW have the American made X3 at 540,000rmb rising to 700,000rmb, below it you have the Chinese made Audi Q5 which weighs in at around 400,000rmb. Of course, the BMW and Mercedes offerings are giving six cylinder engines with similar power outputs as the Evoque, but the Evoque’s major selling point is its high power coupled with high fuel economy – then again, consumers that have 600k RMB to blow on a car will not worry about fuel costs in the short term.

The Evoque is likely to boost Land Rover’s sales in the Chinese market by a large margin and will give consumers a welcome break from the usual German luxury SUV’s and slightly odd looking Japanese luxury SUV offerings. Should Land Rover put models such as the Evoque into production in China in the next few years, then we could potentially see the Land Rover brand expand considerably.

Speaking at the award ceremony, Stuff Magazine Editor, Will Findlater, said: "For combining the off-road capabilities of a Range Rover and leading technology with the desirability of a Blade Runner space car, the Range Rover Evoque just had to win it for us."

Land Rover Design Studio Director, David Saddington collected the award and said: "The Stuff Gadget Award means a lot to us at Land Rover and it is fantastic to win Stuff Magazine's inaugural Car of the Year Award.

I am really happy to pick it up on behalf of the entire Land Rover team who put so much hard work into the design and engineering – it is great to be recognised for leading edge and innovative technology wrapped in such a fantastic design."

Range Rover Evoque Is SUV Of Year: Motor Trend

Motor Trend magazine named Land Rover's Range Rover Evoque as SUV of the Year Tuesday.

The Evoque is a major departure for the British SUV maker, famous for the legendary off-road prowess of its large, luxury SUVs. Powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine and with a six-speed automatic transmission, the Evoque is tuned more for on-road performance and fuel economy. It gets an EPA-estimated 28 miles per gallon in highway driving, making it the most fuel-efficient Land Rover vehicle.

Only vehicles that are all-new or have been substantially redesigned and re-engineered for the 2012 model year were eligible for the award.

The finalists for the award included three Chrysler Group models. They were the Jeep Wrangler and the Dodge Turango and Journey.

Other finalists for the award were the BMW X3, the Ford Explorer, the Mercedes-Benz M-Class, the Mini Cooper Countryman, the Saab 9-4X and the Volkswagen Touareg.

"With its dramatic styling, refined on-road manners, and impressive off-road ability, the Evoque sets the benchmark for the fast-growing compact luxury SUV class," Motor Trend Editor-in-Chief Angus McKenzie said in a statement. "Land Rover has a worldwide hit on its hands with the Range Rover Evoque."

The magazine's editors were especially impressed with the car's on-road performance, McKenzie said, and with the fact that its sleek design didn't compromise interior space and comfort.

Motor Trend's editorial staff selected vehicles based on advancement in design, engineering excellence, efficiency, safety and value. Testing involved a week-long process including precisely measured track tests and "real-world" driving.

Motor Trend gives out three vehicle awards -- SUV of the Year, Car of the Year and Truck of the Year -- annually. Motor Trend's Car of the Year will be announced in November.

Formerly owned by Ford Motor Co., Land Rover was sold to India's Tata Motors in 2008, along with its sister-brand Jaguar.
