Tata brings Nano car worth 22 Crore

The Rs 22 crore car boasts of over 80 kg 22 carat gold, 15 kg silver and many precious gems.

After introducing the cheapest car to the world -- Nano -- about three years ago, Tata Motors has now come out with one of the world' most expensive cars.

Nano, which was originally launched as a Rs 1 lakh car, was given a massive makeover using expensive metals and precious stones to make it India's most expensive car, which contends to be one of the costliest in the world.

The bling version of people's car is a one-off showpiece that would tour Tata-owned jewellery stores across the country.

Launched by Tata Motors chairman Ratan Tata on Monday, the Rs 22 crore car boasts of over 80 kg 22 carat gold, 15 kg silver and many precious gems.

For those who can afford it, still cannot buy the car as the company has no plans to sell it as yet. It is only meant for publicising the craft of jewellery.

2013 Jaguar XE Caught Testing in the European Alps

2013 Jaguar XE

As some of you might know, Jaguar is working at a new model, the XE, which is the production version of the Jaguar Concept C-X16. Well, while the concept is displayed on the IAA in Frankfurt, the test crew is driving the mule for the upcoming production version in the European Alps to test both brakes and cooling system.

As these photos reveals, this mule is based on a cut up Jaguar XK body but we really hope that the XE, that we suspect will be the name of the production version, will look alot like the Concept in Frankfurt.

Refresher: The Jaguar Concept C-X16 is powered by a next-generation supercharged V6 petrol engine producing 380 PS (280kW) and 332 lb ft (450 Nm) of torque. Already boasting a high specific power output of 126 PS-per-litre, the performance of the C-X16 is further supplemented by a Formula 1-inspired hybrid boost system with a steering-wheel mounted button for on-demand acceleration.

The production version will first come as a Roadster and the Coupe will follow one year after. The rumors say that there will also be a GT3 version of the Coupe. It will most likely keep the same drivetrain, minus the innovative hybrid booster. The XE will be a true two-seater sportscar and is planned to go on the hunt for Porsche buyers. The XE will have a price between the Boxster/Cayman and the 911. Power is expected from a 3.0 liter V6 totally made from aluminium and delivering some 380 horsepower.

All models will be launched in China soon: Jaguar Land Rover

The new Jaguar XF was unveiled at the Chengdu Auto Show

As British luxury automaker Jaguar Land Rover makes its most aggressive moves ever and rolls out about 40 new and revamped models in the next five years, the good news for Chinese fans is that a majority of them will be brought to the country, said Bob Grace, president of the company's China operation.

Earlier this year, the manufacturer owned by India's Tata Motors announced that it plans to invest about 1.5 billion pounds ($2.37 billion) every year for the next five years in new products.

"That will see us bring a lot of new models to China - they are all luxury vehicles with the latest technology, the cars that Chinese consumers are demanding," Grace told China Daily in an interview at the Chengdu Motor Show.

Some of the new models will be tailor-made for Chinese customers, who often prefer to ride in the backseat rather than driving themselves, Grace said, noting that the company will pay a lot more attention to rear seat comfort, including reclining and massaging seats as well as entertainment devices.

Like most of international luxury carmakers, Jaguar Land Rover already offers long wheelbase model in the Chinese market, a version of the Jaguar XJ.

The carmaker displayed its full range of Jaguar and Range Rover models at the Chengdu Motor Show, the most important auto exhibition in west China, which is expected to attract more than 350,000 visitors from September 16 to 25.

Grace said that the company plans to double its number of dealerships next year in western China, "an area that we expect to see significant growth".

Jaguar Land Rover has sold nearly 27,000 vehicles so far this year in China, an increase of 60 percent over a year earlier.

China is now the third-biggest market for Jaguar Land Rover worldwide, and is about to become the second largest, the company said.

Nearly 6,000 orders have been placed for the new Range Rover Evoque since pre-sales began in April.

On the verge

"The luxury car market in China is on the verge of becoming the biggest in the world," Grace said, "Jaguar Land Rover is very well positioned with the range of products to take advantage of that."

Grace estimates that China's luxury car market will grow more than 20 percent this year, much faster than the 5 percent growth in the overall auto market.

He also noted that the luxury SUV market will increase even more, a segment that the Land Rover brand is well positioned to tackle.

"Over the course of the next three to five years, we will see our business go from strength to strength," Grace said with confidence.

In the Chinese luxury market where German brands prevail, Grace believes that Jaguar and Land Rover, with unique brand heritage, contemporary design and differentiated luxury, could be an allure.

A most recent example of its "distinctive, not me-too" vehicles is the Range Rover Evoque, or Jiguang in Chinese. The company began pre-sales of the latest and smallest Range Rover model in China at the Shanghai auto show in April and has received nearly 6,000 orders so far.

"Consumer reaction to the Range Rover Evoque has been phenomenal everywhere across the world, not least here in China," Grace said.

The model just rolled off the production line in Liverpool, England in July this year.

The automaker now imports its Jaguar XF, XJ and XK, as well as Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Freelander 2, Discovery 4 and Defender under the Land Rover brand to China through a national sales company that was established in July last year.

More vehicles will come to China in the coming years include the Land Rover DC 100, DC 100 Sport and Jaguar C-X 16 concepts that were debuted at the recent Frankfurt Motor Show, Grace said.

Training talent

Along with rapid business expansion in China, Jaguar Land Rover have established training academies in Shanghai and Beijing. The company plans to open a third in south or west China in the first half of next year.

Jointly with a local vocational college, the automaker launched an apprentice program in the beginning of this month.

Cultivating local talent is one of the company's goals for long-term sustainable development in the strategic market, Grace said.

"There is probably more talent in China than anywhere else in the world - the biggest issue is to make sure they understand the expectations of luxury customers."

Grace said that luxury customers in China today are much more globally aware and expect the type of high-level services they received in hotel and airlines when traveling around the world.

By the end of this year, Jaguar Land Rover will have about 100 dealerships in China. To ensure quality growth, the company has strict criteria in choosing new dealer partners.

They must have luxury brand experience, be good at customer relations and have skilled talent in their management, Grace said.

Big step

The biggest step Jaguar Land Rover will take in China is local production of its cars with a joint venture partner.

"We will bring latest technology to China in the short term as imported vehicles, but over a period of time, we will start to localize some key models," Grace said.

"Building vehicles here in China is a natural extension of wanting to develop the marketplace. It will allow us to manufacture cars tailored to the local consumer with faster access to the marketplace."

He did not reveal the details of the plan, only saying that the company is working "very aggressively" on the process.

Jaguar Land Rover confirms new UK plant

Jaguar Land Rover has announced plans to build a £355m engine plant in the Midlands, creating more than 2,000 jobs and pumping millions of pounds worth of business into the supply chain.

Jaguar Land Rover's new Midlands plant could eventually employ up to 2,000 workers

JLR made the announcement alongside Vince Cable, the Business Secretary, following a Government pledge to underpin JLR's investment with a £10m support package.

The new plant will be based at the i54 business park in Wolverhampton, an enterprise zone, and will take around two years to build.

The Business Secretary said the announcement was a vote of confidence in the UK's recovery from Jaguar's owners Tata Motors.

"There was fierce competition for this engine plant. Tata could have done it in India, they could have done it in various places," Mr Cable said today.

"But they've chosen to invest in Britain and in the West Midlands, which we take as a great sign of confidence."

The facility could eventually employ up to 2,000 workers, and a further 1,200 jobs will be created in the area and associated supply chain.

As well as the jobs created at the plant, Mr Cable said there would be other opportunities created by the deal.

"The most important way in which it can act as a catalyst for other investments is through the supply chain," he added.

"There is something in the order of 15,000 direct employees of Tata but they bring with them about 140,000 employees in the supply chain.

"What we want to see is companies that might recently have migrated out of Britain because of problems in the country in recent years coming back here and making components for these new car plants in Britain."

Today's announcement is also a significant political win for the Coalition government, which is seeking to rebalance the economy by boosting manufacturing and reducing its reliance on banking.

Mr Cable said: "One of the attractions of the West Midlands is this is the heartland of the motor industry. There's a tradition of skilled labour, which is absolutely crucial to their business and I think they are showing confidence in the fact that we've put the boat out for them, we've shown them that we want to work with them.

"They've concluded this was the best place to be."

The Business Secretary said the £10m Government grant was a show of support for the manufacturer but with £350m investment from Tata, the project did not rely on public funds.

It marks a turnaround in the fortunes of JLR since it was acquired by Tata Motors in 2008. JLR's engines are currently supplied by Ford from plants including Dagenham and Bridgend, but the car maker wants to take more control of its supply chain.
