Brazil's SHC In Talks To Import Tata Cars From India

SAO PAULO - Brazilian car importer Sergio Habib said Friday that he is in talks with India's Tata Motors (TTM) to import the company's cars to the South American country.

Habib, whose SHC Group is financing 80% of the construction of a 900 million-Brazilian-real auto factory with China's Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Co., or JAC, has for years imported cars to Brazil.

"We are talking to the company, but nothing has been defined yet," his press office said in a statement.

Along with having served eight years as president of Citroen in Brazil, Habib imports through SHC cars from Citroen, Ford, Volkswagen and Jaguar. In March he began selling JAC cars in Brazil.

Tata's press office wasn't immediately available to comment.
