Force Motors has launched the Force One SUV today. The first sports utility vehicle from Force Motors is priced at 10.65 lakh ex-showroom Delhi. The new SUV was unveiled by none other than Mr. Amitabh Bachchan. The Force One is based on the Guandong Foday Explorer III which is sold in China. In fact, it is the very same vehicle that Force Motors will manufacture in the country with minor tweaks to make it suitable under Indian conditions.
The high riding SUV will be available in six as well as seven seat configuration. Under the rugged body is a 2.2 litre common-rail turbo diesel engine which Force Motors has licensed from Daimler. Code named the OM611, the diesel engine puts out 141 PS @ 3800 rpm, and 321 torques @ 1600 rpm coupled to a 5 forward-1 reverse transmission. Force has launched the two-wheel drive variant to start with as the 4×4 version of the Force One is slated for 2013.
Force Motors has roped-in renowned British sports car maker, Lotus for the development of the SUV. The suspension of the Force One was developed by Lotus, the makers of the Exige, which is regarded as one of the best handling sports cars around. The SUV has also undergone intense testing in UK as well as under the most inhospitable conditions of Leh in India. Force One does lack even the basic safety features like airbags and ABS which is a surprise considering its price.
